Kelly Jenzen

  • Estate Planning, Business and Real Estate

Kelly was born and raised in Willmar, Minnesota, graduating from Willmar High School.   She then went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota at Morris, with high distinction, double majoring in Economics and English.  After college, Kelly attended William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, graduating magna cum laude.  During law school, she clerked for the legal department at the corporate headquarters of U.S. Bank, and spent a summer clerking for Anderson and Burgett law firm back home in Willmar.

After graduating from law school, passing the Minnesota bar exam and being admitted to practice law in the state courts in Minnesota, Kelly was a product development attorney for five years for Bankers Systems, Inc., now Wolters Kluwer, where she helped develop legal solutions for financial institutions.  After marrying her husband, who was born and raised in Alexandria, Kelly joined Johnston Law Office, P.A. in 2005.

Kelly focuses her legal practice in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust administration, real estate, and business matters.   Kelly is a member of the Douglas County Bar Association and the Minnesota State Bar Association.  She has served as a board member and past Chair of First Lutheran Church Endowment Committee, as well as being a ten year Board member (and three year Chair) for Alexandria Area Community Foundation. She currently sits on Habitat for Humanity’s Homeowner Selection Committee.  She enjoys volunteering her time when she can;  specifically as a Junior Great Books instructor at Garfield Elementary School, a baseball coach through Lakes Area Recreation, a volunteer coach for the Freshman Academy Network program with Alexandria Area High School and as a Sunday School teacher at First Lutheran Church.    She has also been a volunteer attorney with the Wills for Heroes program.

Kelly resides near Alexandria with her husband, Neil, and three children.  Kelly loves long walks with her dogs, being active outside with her family, and spending time on the lakes in the summer, but not in the winter (she will take a raincheck on the ice fishing).
